Your 30’s are a great time in life, when most people are becoming well established in their home and work lives. At this stage, the majority of us will hopefully still be enjoying good health, without the nagging symptoms of aging that may begin to bother us in later years. However, the busyness of work and family at this stage of life can lead us to neglect our health. This can impact our well‐being further down the track. Taking care of ourselves during our 30’s can have short‐term as well as long‐term benefits.
Here are our top tips to help you living well throughout your 30’s.

Get enough sleep

For many busy people, it often seems as if there aren’t enough hours in the day. For those working full time and with a family to look after or a busy social schedule, it may be tempting to skimp on sleep in order to get everything done. This is a false economy, as a lack of sleep can have consequences on your health, causing forgetfulness, weight gain, accelerated aging of the skin, low mood and reduced libido.1

Manage your stress levels

Stress that continues for a long time can have a negative impact on both our mental and physical health. Mentally, it may cause us to feel irritable, tired and unable to focus on our work. Physically, chronic stress may also lead to the development of health conditions, either due to changes that occur in the body or because of the unhealthy habits we acquire that help us cope with the stress, such as overeating, drinking alcohol or smoking.2 Be mindful of your stress levels and try to take regular time‐out to relax, even if it means saying no to some social engagements and extra commitments that you would usually be involved in.

Maintain a healthy weight

Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important for your general health, energy levels and self esteem. Achieving a healthy weight will also help to reduce your risk of developing certain health conditions. Weight loss or gain can be attributed to factors such as genetics, eating habits and calorie consumption and your metabolism.3 Losing weight can become more difficult as we age, so it’s important to establish healthy eating and exercise habits in your 30’s that you can continue throughout life.
