Easy ways to boost your breakfast with superfoods
Published August 15, 2014
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. It refuels the body after many hours of fasting, and helps recharge the brain and body for the day ahead. A healthy breakfast will also help you feel more satisfied and can reduce snacking on less nutritious foods or overeating later on.
Adding superfoods to your daily breakfast is a great way to boost your intake of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, and help provide you with the energy you need to start a new day.
Here are some easy superfood‐enriched breakfast ideas:
Superfood smoothie to go – When you’re short on time in the morning, consider making a superfood smoothie with berries, a banana, yoghurt, your choice of milk or water, and a specialised superfood powder blend. These can easily be carried with you to work and consumed when you’re on the go.
Banana berry parfait – To power up your day, layer sliced bananas, yoghurt, natural muesli, nutrient and antioxidant‐rich berries, and a drizzle of honey. For an even greater nutritional boost, consider sprinkling a carefully crafted berry superblend powder on top.
Buckwheat pancakes – Buckwheat is naturally rich in zinc, copper, manganese and potassium as well as protein, which helps keep you satisfied for longer.1 To add extra superfood power, consider adding chia seeds or a chia superblend blend to your pancake mix. Chia is one of the most popular superfoods and is a good source of essential fatty acids and dietary fibre.
Super porridge – Oats in their own right are considered a superfood; they are a good source of dietary fibre, protein, zinc, vitamin B1, magnesium and selenium.2 However, their nutritional content can also be bolstered by adding blueberries, chia seeds and a specialised superfood powder blend. If you are gluten‐intolerant, consider quinoa porridge instead.
Green eggs – Make traditional scrambled eggs but add supergreens such as spinach or kale for an extra nutritional boost.
