Three ways to increase your energy
Published June 4, 2014
As the festive season approaches, many people will feel the strain and may suffer from lower than usual energy levels or even mild anxiety & stress. To stay on top of your game and make the most of the excitement of the summer months, remember to think about causes of energy loss and ways to keep the fatigue at bay.
Diet and lifestyle have an impact on energy
It’s all too easy to slip into the summer mood and nibble away at cheese and crackers or snacks instead of proper meals. Although tasty, snacks do not offer the sustenance of a meal. Your body requires a balanced diet of protein, vitamins, calcium and other nutrients to make it through the day without feeling exhausted. So if you’re struggling to balance a holiday diet, consider adding a multivitamin supplement to help support energy levels.
Sleep has an impact on your energy
Sleep is important for memory & concentration, which is why the US National Sleep Foundation suggests adults get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.1 Sleep deprivation is much more serious than simply causing you to feel sleepy, as it can cause a number of negative health effects including weight gain and accidents caused by lower alertness.1 Schedule a “sleep appointment” and stick to it in order to keep your energy levels at their best.
Benefits of exercise on energy levels
Paradoxically, if you’re feeling too tired to go for a walk, a walk is likely to be one of the best things for you.2 An analysis looked at over 70 studies on the subject and more than 90 per cent were found to show sedentary people who engaged in exercised reported improved energy2.
