Five tips to improve your productivity

- Tackle your highest priority projects first– Prioritise one key task to accomplish each day and start your day by focusing all your attention on it. This way you’ll finish at least one critical task at a time when you’re likely to have the most energy and the least distractions.
- Complete one task at a time – Think you can work on a project, check your email and talk on the phone all at once? Think again. Research shows that chronic multi‐tasking is less efficient than focusing on one task at a time. People who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information have difficulty paying attention, recalling information and successfully switching from one job to another.2By doing less, you may actually accomplish more.
- Reduce distractions – Block out time from your daily calendar to work on projects and try to avoid checking your inbox or text messages during these periods. Instead, read and answer your emails and text messages in ten minute slots every two or more hours.
- Take short breaks – Long hours and skipping breaks doesn’t necessarily mean you’re being more productive. It’s important to detach from your work, and work space, to recharge your mind and body. Options include going for a walk around the block, getting a cup of tea, reading a book outside or actually taking your lunch break.
- Take care of yourself – A good day starts before you even arrive at work. Ensure you get enough quality sleep every night. Fitting regular exercise into your busy schedule is also important.
